As we gear up for a New Year and also a new site design for us at honeydobliss, we can never have too much hot chocolate as we work away.
When making our own version we both had our own idea of what the perfect hot chocolate is. Our conversation went something like this:
Danny: I’m going to make a healthy hot chocolate for the blog.
D: Yeah, it’s better to have real stuff than processed instant stuff.
Steph: Hey, I like that still!
D: I’m gong to make it extra dark chocolate.
S: Booooooo! I like milk chocolate.
D: Well you’re not making it, so you have no say.
S: Well you’re lactose intolera–
D: NO I’M NOT!…..Well maybe just a little.
S: What you going to do now big guy?
D: Use almond milk. Now get out of the kitchen.
This delightfully, dark and rich hot chocolate is a healthier option to all the crazy sugar in store bought brands. Almond milk is a great alternative to regular milk and adds a little extra flavour to your hot chocolate. Also, another healthier option to sweeten it is coconut sugar instead of refined white sugar. Coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index than white sugar.
Now go make yourself a cup and cozy up to watch Elf or Charlie Brown!
- 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
- 1 Tbsp of raw cacao powder
- 1 Tbsp of coconut sugar
- 30 grams of 70% dark chocolate
- pinch of Himalayan Pink Salt
- Warm the almond milk over medium-low heat in a small pot.
- Whisk in cacao and dark chocolate until smooth and all melted and blended.
- Whisk in coconut sugar until combined.
- Serve and enjoy!
